Bab Zaer
Located west of Rabat, Bab Zaer is one of the city’s ancient monumental gates, once marking the entrance to the territories occupied by the Zaer tribe. It was part of the capital’s fortifications during the Almohad era and served as a strategic point connecting the city to the surrounding rural areas.
Today, Bab Zaer is a vestige steeped in memory, a symbol of Rabat’s openness to its hinterland and tribal heritage. Although not as famous as Bab El Had or Bab Rouah, it remains a valuable testimony to the city’s urban history. It is also a landmark for those who wish to discover a more discreet, more local Rabat, between architectural heritage and deep-rooted rural traditions.
